Apricity Theatre present Shakespeare and Voice Acting Workshop

About this event

Many parts of Shakespeare are not as universal as we’re told. But the human heartbeat at the centre of his words is. It changes pace, skips a beat, and thuds out a rhythm just like ours, and just like the characters’ of his plays.

Join director, actor, and Shakespeare performance specialist CJ Turner-McMullan to unpack, play with, and better understand the secrets hiding in Shakespeare’s iambic pentameter. Thinking about breath, vocal tone, pace, and pitch, we’ll explore different ways of discovering and performing the meaning behind his words.

This practical workshop for actors, directors, and well... anyone really, professional or not, will help you find the confidence and creativity to make Shakespeare’s words your own.

More about CJ:

CJ is the Creative Director of Apricity Theatre and a freelance theatre-maker. They have an MA in Performing Shakespeare from Bath Spa University, where they are now an associate lecturer and PhD researcher exploring Shakespeare and gender in performance.

CJ has directed multiple productions for Apricity, including Shakespeare adaptations Fall of Kings, Between the Armies, and The Breach. Their teaching draws on the work of Laban and Grotowski, and on their training with practitioners from Shakespeare’s Globe, Fourth Monkey, Central School of Speech and Drama, and RADA.

Feedback from past workshops:
