April's Walk to Nowhere and Historic Pub Social
Thu 27 April 2017, 18:30 – 21:30 BST
Please join us on Thursday 27th April for our monthly Walk to Nowhere and Historic Pub Social. We will meet at 6.30pm at Tower Hill Station for the Walk, led by our Chair, Stephen Bull.
The Walk will take us past Whitechapel Bell Foundary, Britain's oldest manufacturing company, which has now ceased production at its eighteenth century premises. The site is Grade II* listed and is fronted by a grand red brick, three storey Georgian house and shop facing Whitechapel Road. To the rear, the industrial buildings have grown and evolved over time to house the manufacturing processes. On this site numerous bells from hand bells to the famous Big Ben and the Liberty Bell have been cast.
The Walk will finish at the Grade II* Wilton's Music Hall. This is one of few surviving Victorian music halls, and retains rich decoration from the mid-nineteenth century. The gentle conservation programme at Wilton's has ensure its continued use as a music and entertainment venue.
