Speakers:

Dr Eloísa Monteoliva-García, President of APTIS and Director of Professional Language Training at the University of York, is currently President of the Association of Programmes in Translation and Interpreting Studies in the UK and Ireland (APTIS), Director of Professional Language Training and Senior Lecturer in Translation and Interpreting Studies at the University of York. Eloísa directs the PhD programme in Translation and Interpreting, the Institution-Wide Language Provision and the Translation and Interpreting subject area within the Department Language and Linguistic Science at the University of York, which ranked 1st in Linguistics in the last Research Excellence Framework (2021) for the quality of their research. In addition to training translators and interpreters within the MA programmes at the University of York, Eloísa and her team develop bespoke CPD training initiatives in translation and interpreting either addressing specific professional needs or stemming from research findings. Eloísa’s research interests focus on public service interpreting, and she is currently involved in a range of research projects, including interpreting in neonatal units, police settings and situations of language conflict.

Irina Sanders is a Conference and Public Service Interpreter, Business Consultant, and a qualified Professional Supervisor. Practicing since 2004, she holds an MA in Interpreting, a DPI, and an M.Sc. in Geology – Hydrogeology. A National Registered Interpreter (NRPSI), demonstrating her commitment to professional standards and ethics, she is also an Incorporation Director and Chairman of AIT, actively advocating for excellence and professional development in the interpreting and translation sector.

Gintare Rudd is a Lithuanian public service interpreter based in East Anglia, UK. She is registered with and regulated by the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI). Gintare holds a Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) in Law from the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL) and a BA in Chinese and Development Studies from SOAS, University of London. She is a full member and a Director of the Association of Interpreters and Translators (AIT), where she currently servs on the Board as Vice-Chairman.

The event will be hybrid. For those joining in person, it will take place at the University of York multilingual conference suite SLB/211, an interpreting suite designed to the highest standard. A Zoom link will be provided to those joining remotely.

How to get there:

The Spring Lane Building is centrally located and an accessible building at the University of York’s Campus West. It is located near the main bus stop on Campus West (University Library) and next to Car Park 2.4 (Campus Central, free on a weekend). You can take bus services U1 and U2 from the city centre and get off at the University Library stop. For those who prefer to walk, the Spring Lane Building it’s just a 30-minute walk from the city centre.
