Arabic Speaking Women's Experiences of Harmful Practices (3 hour workshop)

Please note this workshop will cost £50 for private and profit making services. It is free to statutory and voluntary sector agencies.

This 3 hour workshop, delivered by Al-Aman with the LSCP trainer will help practitioners to learn about the prevalence and impact of harmful practices on the Arabic speaking community locally. This session will have some case studies and group work to enable reflection and build confidence.

The harmful practices that will be included are; dowry abuse, faith based abuse, forced marriage, female genital mutilation and so-called honour based abuse.

Learning Outcomes

To identify the different harmful practices being perpetrated against women and girls with a focus on the Arabic speaking community.
To understand the role of Al-Aman (DVIP) and other specialist services.
To identify the risk factors that can render women and girls vulnerable to harmful practices.
To identify the signs/symptoms that a woman or a girl is at risk of, or experiencing, harmful practice/s.
To examine the prevalence of harmful practices locally
To build confidence identifying and addressing harms that can be hidden within cultures that are unfamiliar.
To understand the key referral pathways and multiagency frameworks including the legislative and policy frameworks that exist for the prevention and redressal of harmful practices.

From June 1st 2018 all workshops can be cancelled up to 5 working days in advance with no charge.
