Arabs Are Not Funny! This special edition is performed by Arab women artists comedians as part of Arab Women Artists Now - AWAN 1 - 30 March 2018 Festival.

Widely regarded as one of the hottest comedy nights among the Arab community and beyond. Comedians with roots in the Arab world attempt to prove the naysayers wrong!

After a very successful sold-out 18 editions, Arts Canteen’s Arabs Are Not Funny is back with very interesting line-up of comedians, representing the Arab world and surrounding regions, looking for an opportunity to showcase their talents.

- Esther Manito :

Esther started out in comedy in April 2016 . Esther is a So You Think You’re Funny Finalist 2017. Bath Comedian of the year FINALIST 2017. Listed as a ‘One to Watch’ by – funny women 2016 and Funny women semi finalist 2017. Amused Moose SEMI FINALIST 2017. Leicester Square Comedian of the year SEMI FINALIST 2016/2017. Esther was a BBC new comedy award nominee in 2016/2017. Esther’s observational stand up takes you on a whirlwind tour of what life is like for an Anglo/Lebanese mum of two…..Esther also is a writer and has contributed to the publication Dont panic l’m Islamic.


- Isabelle Farah

Isabelle is a Britsh-Lebanese actress and comedian and admin monkey, unsure whether she is more at home in both the Lebanese Mountains or the mountains of Muswell Hill. Isabelle has a long history of trying hard but failing miserably at being a serious person, which is why she fell into comedy.

- Janine Harouni

A Lebanese-American comedian. She has been featured on BBC Radio 4, in Comic Relief's 'Anti-Social', and was named Funny Women's 'One to Watch in 2017'. She was a finalist in the Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year Award and was nominated for the BBC New Comedy Award. She is also part of sketch trio Muriel, winners of So You Think You're Funny and the Leicester Square Sketch Off. Their debut show Muriel: Bad Master sold out its Edinburgh run and is transferring to London's Soho Theatre on Feb 26th and 27th.

- MC Fatiha El-Ghorri :

Underneath her colourful hijab is a mind full of cutting observations and engaging witticism of the life and times of a British Muslim.’

Arab Women Artists Now (AWAN) Festival 2018

AWAN, which is about to enter its 4th edition, showcases the work of contemporary Arab women artists in the UK, Europe and beyond, providing opportunities for artists and audiences to celebrate, be informed and network whilst exposing new audiences to the work of these often marginalized artists, providing a platform to present the work of Arab Women Artists.
