From social robots to built environment - the practice and potential of transdisciplinary research

Shanti Sumartojo, Associate Professor of Design Research and a co-director of WonderLab (Monash University) asks what enables transdisciplinary research to take flight. She asks what changes are needed to how research looks, works and feels, drawing on her own projects, from social robotics and anticipatory policymaking practice to public built environment futures.

Agenda:

16:00 -16:30 – Welcome and talk from Shanti Sumartojo

16:30 -17:00 - Audience discussion and Q&A

17:00 -17:30 - Drinks

Shanti is an interdisciplinary design researcher leading creative and collaborative work in two main areas. Firstly, she investigates how people experience the spaces and design of their everyday lives, by developing new concepts and creative and ethnographic methodologies. Second, she collaborates on designing public engagement activities with global social impact partners that motivate real-world change by imagining hopeful futures and identifying how to reach them.
