About this event

Community • Other

This is the third in a series of four meetings aimed towards social care and social work staff and people with a vested interest in social care and social work services. In this event we will discuss an important topic to service users and service providers: the access to, use and quality of social care services for people with dementia and their carers.

This third seminar will hear from Sheila Samuels, an ARC NWC public advisor, who will be discussing their experiences of the social care system when caring for their husband who had dementia. Then Dr Clarissa Giebel, dementia research group lead at The University of Liverpool and the ARC NWC, talking about how the research in dementia, social care access for people with dementia and unpaid carers, and how to provide solutions to the inequalities in access to services. Emma Stafford, a Dementia Care Navigator(DCN) will be discussing their role in supporting people with dementia and their unpaid carer to navigate the care and support system.

Following on from this, there will be the opportunity to ask the presenters questions, with a focus on discussing how we can support people with dementia and carers to access support if they want to. How can we understand and address the barriers to care access and provide a more equitable system in which demographics and geography have less of an impact on the access to care, as well as the frequency and quality of care received.
