Guided tours of 66 Portland Place

Where was the idea for the RIBA conceived? Which Monarch gave us our Royal Charter? Which city’s name is carved into our walls? Why did the RIBA cause a traffic jam? Which famous architects and actors have walked these floors? Visit the home of architecture and hear about the places and faces behind 66 Portland Place.

Architect George Grey Wornum’s winning design for the RIBA is both beautiful and functional and our dedicated tour guides will walk you through our fascinating art-deco building to explore the writings on our walls and see the wealth of materials that make up our intricate interiors. As well as looking at our magnificent architecture, we will offer you an insight into the architecture profession and the RIBA’s role in championing great architecture. The tour will conclude with an introduction to the forthcoming exhibition in the Architecture Gallery.

Please note that due to refurbishment work the council chamber and 4th floor landing will not be available to view.

Tours will be taking place on select Tuesday evenings (6.30pm-7.30pm) and Saturday afternoons (2.30pm-3.30pm):

  • Tuesday 22 January 6.30pm - this will conclude with a look at our collection instead of an introduction to the gallery
  • Saturday 9 February 2.30pm
  • Tuesday 26 February 6.30pm
  • Saturday 9 March 2.30pm
  • Tuesday 26 March 6.30pm
  • Saturday 13 April 2.30pm
  • Tuesday 23 April 6.30pm

All tickets include a free tea/coffee and brownie or flapjack from our ground floor cafe.
