About this event

Join us for an afternoon of architectural exploration as we present a special screening of archive footage capturing the evolution of urban design. At the heart of the event is Anglia Square, Norwich—a landmark of Brutalist architecture that has sparked debate, nostalgia, and visions of renewal. This curated selection showcases architectural moments frozen in time, revealing how spaces influence communities, reflect societal change, and stand as testaments to ambitious city planning.

Organized by

Founded in 1976, the East Anglian Film Archive (EAFA) was the first of the regional film archives to be established in the UK, and since 1984 it has been owned and operated by the University of East Anglia.

Housed at The Archive Centre in Norwich, The East Anglian Film Archive's collections comprise thousands of hours of moving image material on different formats dating from 1896 to the present day.  The core collection reflects the six counties of the East of England region – Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk through  mainly non- fiction material such as advertising films, corporate videos, documentaries, family and personal films, home movies , travelogues and films by civic bodies and regional organisations. The archive also holds the collections of BBC East and ITV Anglia [collections] as well as the film library and papers of the Institute of Amateur Cinematographers.

In 2010 - 2011 the archive received major funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and as one of the project outcomes, over 200 hours of digitised film are free to view on the EAFA website www.eafa.org.uk. The East Anglian Film Archive works closely with the University of East Anglia to support its activities in teaching, research, engagement and enterprise. The archive also supplies footage to broadcasters and organisations such as museums.  EAFA has excellent links with the British Film Institute and is currently engaged in a number of externally funded projects.

EAFA's engagement activities include the annual 'Mashup' Filmmaking Competition in which young filmmakers are invited to choose from a purposely curated package of archive material and re-use to create a completely new work.
