Event description
Japan House London is delighted to invite you to our new exhibition, Architecture for Dogs, and timed entry to browse our Ground Floor

About this event

The internationally acclaimed ‘Architecture for Dogs’ makes its European debut at Japan House London, offering guests a light-hearted exploration into architecture and design that can be joyful for both dogs and their human companions. Explore works by celebrated architects and designers including Hara Kenya, Ban Shigeru, Kuma Kengo, Itō Toyō, Sou Fujimoto and Atelier Bow-Wow as well as brand a new design by London-based architect Asif Khan.

Admission to the exhibition is free, but entry must be booked in advance. Entrance tickets to the exhibition also allow guests access to the Ground Floor including The Shop, The Stand, the JNTO Travel Zone and Japan House London's cultural installations. Up to three tickets can be booked at once by guests from the same household.

Please note that face coverings must be worn throughout Japan House London (unless you are exempt), and social distancing must be observed at all times. Please note that our cloakroom is currently unavailable and that only small bags may be carried into the exhibition. For more information on our COVID-19 measures, please see japanhouselondon.uk/covid/

Bringing dogs to the exhibition

It is quite unusual for dogs to be allowed into a gallery, so we have put in place the following rules to ensure everyone’s enjoyment of the exhibition:

  • Well-behaved dogs to a maximum height of 45.5cm (18 inches)* on a lead, as well as assistance dogs are welcome at Japan House London.
  • Only one dog per visitor can be admitted.
  • At busy times, you may be be asked to wait a while before entering the Gallery so that the number of dogs in the exhibition can be kept within a manageable limit.
  • It is not possible for dogs (or humans) to touch or interact with the exhibits in the Gallery – this is only possible for small dogs in the Hall with specially prepared exhibits. (Owners who allow their dogs to climb on any of the plinths in the Gallery will be asked to leave immediately)
  • Your dog must be kept on a short lead or carried and kept under control at all times. (Owners will be asked to remove their dog if other visitors (humans or dogs) are disturbed by it)
  • Dogs must also adhere to the social distancing. Please leave a space of no less than 2m between your own dog and the dog in front of you.
  • You are responsible for clearing up after your dog, but you must tell a member of staff if your dog has had an accident.

* As measured from the floor to the top of the dog's back
