About this event

The Architecture Section was established in January 2022, encouraged by the popularity of St Helier town walks with an architectural theme that had been held in 2021.

The aims of the Section are twofold – the first is to research and substantially expand our knowledge and understanding of distinctive, diverse and high-quality architecture produced in the Island since the mid-19th century, as well as the architects and clients who created them. The second aim is to publish and promote this work through lectures, walks, Bulletin articles, booklets, exhibitions, social media channels and other means.

The systematic recording and understanding of the wide range of decorative features to be found on late 19 th century houses, focusing initially on the Havre des Pas Area.

A exploratory study of selected late 19 th century villas around the Island.

A biographical study of architects who were active in the post-war decades, following the success of the AJA60 exhibition (a collaboration of the Association of the Association of Jersey Architects and the Société).

The digitisation of a wealth of historic architectural drawing dating from 1870, which have been kindly donated or made available to the Société with a view to making these widely available.
