In conversation with the comedian and author about Brutalist architecture, urban design, and new towns

Ever wanted to learn more about your surroundings? Christopher Beanland is a comedian, podcaster, national journalist and author with expertise in brutalist architecture, new towns, and particularly in the influential architect John Madin who designed Redditch Library and the old Birmingham Central Library.

He is the author of the novels Spinning Out of Control (2014) and The Wall in The Head (2019). He also wrote non-fiction books including Concrete Concept - Brutalist Buildings Around The World (2016), Lido / Pool (2020), Unbuilt (2021), City Parks (2023) and Architecture For Cars (2025). He has also written for The Guardian and The Independent.

Christopher hosts the fantastic regular comedy podcast Park Dates and can be found online at christopherbeanland.com.

There will be a Q & A and books will be on sale on the day.
