Behind the Scenes at The Linnean Society a tour of the archives and Library of the Linnean Society

The Linnean Society was founded in 1788, and is the oldest learned society devoted to the science of natural history, and has in its care several important collections, including those of the Swedish botanist, Carl Linnaeus, and the Society’s founder, Sir James Edward Smith.

Designated a collection of outstanding national importance by the Arts Council England in 2014, the holdings of the Linnean Society (which include library, archive and biological specimen material) provide an unsurpassed resource for the study of natural history.

This is an exciting opportunity to Join their expert staff for a tour of the Society’s magnificent premises at Burlington House. The tour will include a visit to the Society’s bombproof collections store, where the priceless book, archive and biological specimen collections of the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus are housed in environmentally controlled conditions beneath the teeming shoppers of Piccadilly.
