About this event

Explore LJMU Special Collections & Archives at this rare Saturday open day! We'll be showcasing archive material from our sixty-two exciting collections in this hands-on drop-in workshop.

Please arrive with clean, bare hands and be aware that some of our collections contain sexually explicit material. No food, drink, or pens will be allowed within the Reading Room.

The Reading Room is located on the Lower Ground floor of the Mount Pleasant Campus Library, which is wheelchair accessible. Do let us know in advance if you have any other access needs we need to be aware of via archives@ljmu.ac.uk

If you are an external user, you will need any form of ID to sign in at the reception desk before heading downstairs to the Archive.

If you can't make the event, but still want to view something from our collections - we're open Mon-Fri 10:00-16:00, and you can request any of the material on our shelves by emailing us at archives@ljmu.ac.uk.

Frequently asked questions

Is the building wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the building is wheelchair accessible! There is a Blue Badge parking bay, but please let us know in advance via archives@ljmu.ac.uk. If you have any other access needs or concerns, please email us at archives@ljmu.ac.uk

Will I be able to touch the archive material?

Yes! As long as you arrive with clean, bare hands, you will be welcome to browse several tables worth of original archive material and rare publications with guidance from one of our Archivists.

Who is this event suitable for?

The event is suitable for anyone who feels comfortable attending, but we advise parents that some of our archive material includes sexually explicit content and themes. For all questions, please email us at archives@ljmu.ac.uk
