Archives of Philanthropy: Opportunities and Challenges
Event Information
About this Event
The UK Philanthropy Archive aims to collect, preserve and provide access to archives relating to philanthropy in the UK. We collect the archives and papers of UK Philanthropists, philanthropic trusts and foundations, philanthropic networks, and other related material.
We aim to build a research collection that enables a better understanding of philanthropy and how it impacts the world around us, and we welcome researchers, students, historians, funders and the general public to engage with the collection.
This seminar will explore some of the opportunities and challenges that we experience in developing an archive of this type. We welcome six short presentations from experts across the archive, research and philanthropy sector who will illustrate how philanthropic archives might be used and why they are important, alongside consideration of issues of consent, good records management, and transparency of data.
Speakers include:

• Ellie Munro – Voluntary Sector Researcher and PhD Student (University of Birmingham) - The Cadbury Barrow Trust archives – using archives to study philanthropy
