Event description
Discover how your rubbish is transformed into enough energy to power 54,459 homes – that’s approximately 80% of all households in Oxford.

About this Event

Join us for a tour around the facility and explore our award-winning interactive visitor centre to find out what happens to your non-recyclable waste after you put it in the bin.

Ardley Energy Recovery Facility plays a big role in making Oxfordshire more sustainable, diverting most of the county’s domestic waste away from landfill.

Ardley Energy Recovery Facility currently processes 326,300 tonnes per year of domestic and commercial waste, including our 25-year contract for residual (non-recyclable) waste treatment with Oxfordshire County Council.

The process provides electricity to the National Grid, while bottom ash from the process is recycled for use in the construction industry.

The site has a unique heritage with dinosaur footprints and tracks. Part of the site is designated by Natural England as a site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI) for its geological features.
