'I wish I didn't feel so stupid' - feelings like this prevent us from achieving and living our lives productively. Individual's who see themselves as useless are sustained by core beliefs which sit deep in their psyche. Social Anxiety / Phobia and it's prevalence in contemporary society and how it presents in a variety of situations is examined. Those effected live less than optimum lives, and so, its time to bring about change!

This course examines the development, maintenance, continuation and escalation of Social Anxiety and Phobia through a CBT lens. Guest Lecturer Mark James CBT therapist examines practical assessment and intervention.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Define Social Anxiety and Social Phobia
  • Describe the DSM V criteria for Social Anxiety and Social Phobia
  • Understand the Cognitive Behavioural Theory to explain the development, maintenance, continuation and escalation of Social Anxiety and Social Phobia
  • Understand the principals of assessment, intervention and treatment of Social Anxiety and Social Phobia
  • Discuss and apply types of interventions available for Social Anxiety / Phobia
