Are you on Board? – An insight into the role of the charity trustee: how you can support the community and develop your own skills at the same time.
The main goal of the session is to give an insight into the role and benefits of being a charity trustee.
The three main points we will cover are:
• The main role and key legal responsibilities of the charity trustee
• The likely level of commitment required
• The benefits to your own professional and personal development as well as to your community
Catriona is Head of Governance and Engagement with Arts & Business Scotland, a Scottish charity that builds business and cultural sector resilience through training, mentoring and cross-sectoral knowledge transfer activities, and enables effective collaboration between the business and the cultural sectors. Her particular responsibility is to organise and deliver governance training for the not-for-profit cultural sector, as well as advising and encouraging trustees and potential trustees in their role. She joined Arts & Business Scotland in 2007 following ten years at Scottish Opera where she was Head of Fundraising & Sponsorship from 1999, with overall responsibility for raising funds from business, charitable trusts and private individuals.
She is an experienced board member in the charitable sector; formerly a Director of The Merchants House of Glasgow, the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society, and Chair of Kelvin Choir (a local community choir she helped to set up in 2009), she is currently Chair of The Royal Society for the Support of Women of Scotland and a Director of Bloody Scotland (Scotland’s International Crime Writing Festival). Catriona owes her involvement in the voluntary and not-for-profit sector to her time as a member of JCI Glasgow, of which she was President (the first female in the role) in 1990/91.
