Arepa!Arepa!Arepa! at Trove November 2014
Friday, 14 November 2014 from 19:30 to 22:30 (GMT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
After bringing the humble arepa to the markets of Manchester we've now decided to try and get all you Mancunians loving the rest of the lesser known Colombian dishes and the delightful Trove have offered to be our hosts on the 2nd Friday of every month. Now this isn't fancy food, this is a taste of the cuisine you might get at a roadside cafe or at the table of an overbearing Colombian grandmother. We've put together the menu below in the hope that you will get to try at least something that you haven't tried before and that you get to experience the types of hearty meals which are eaten day in day out in sunny Colombia. We hope you leave with a full stomach, an entertained set of tastebuds and a strong urge to buy a flight to Bogota.
¡PIÑA !¡PIÑA !¡PIÑA !
A welcome drink consisting of a healthy dose of rum and lime infused with cinnamon toasted pineapple
To accompany your warming cocktail you will be snacking on pandebono (baked cheese breads), fresh lime plantain crisps and mini deep fried arepas served with a Colombian aji sauce, a Venezuelan guasacaca avocado sauce and our home made Bajo Cuerda hot sauce.
Ceviche De Camarones
A simple shrimp ceviche mainly served on the Northern coast of Colombia with plenty of sweet and citrus flavours. Served with saltine crackers & a zinging hot sauce.
The staple stew of the people of Bogota, not a day goes by without this multi potato dish being consumed up and down Colombia. The 3 different potatoes gives it a pleasingly thick texture and when combined with corn on the cob, chicken cooked on the bone, a quarter of an avocado, a freshly toasted arepa and a unique wild Colombian herb called guascas you've got an uber hearty cockle warmer.
Torta de Tres Leches
Our sweet treat for the evening is a traditional 'three milk cake' (SPOILER: It's got four milks in it). A light sponge soaked in a sweet milk concoction topped with whipped cream and a boozy cherry.
VEGAN, VEGETARIAN OR GLUTEN FREE MENUS AVAILABLE, EMAIL FOR DETAILS!
Now because we do use a variety of sometimes difficult to source ingredients we have to warn you that some of the items might be slightly tweaked when served on the night.
We'll provide table water on the night as well as a welcome cocktail but we would encourage you to bring along a wine or a beer to enjoy along with your meal.
If you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to tweet us up or drop us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
When & Where
We are two residents of Manchester bringing our favourite food to the streets of Northern England and beyond. We are 25% Colombian and have spent a great deal of time in Colombia of which most of that time was spent eating arepas. Our hope is that the good people of Great Britain will embrace this humble street food and fall in love with it just like we did!
