Argyll Enterprise Week: Focus on Social Enterprise: 2nd & 3rd November 2016
Wednesday 2nd November
Social Enterprise Film Festival with Lesley Riddoch: 6.00–8.30pm
Oban Phoenix Cinema (a social enterprise itself) will be the venue for this Film Event to showcase social enterprise activity from across Argyll and Bute. Social Enterprises from across the area are encouraged to submit their short films which will be selected for the event. The event will feature a number of short films, followed by question and answer sessions, where those featured will share their experience. An opportunity to learn about the inspiration for social enterprise, what the challenges are and what impact is delivered locally.

Post Show Informal Learning Exchange: 8.30pm onwards
Oban Youth Hostel will be available for accommodation for folks attending and will be the venue for this informal networking and learning opportunity. From past experience at ABSEN events some of the most valuable sharing and learning would take place after outwith the formal programme and into the wee small hours. This learning exchange gives social enterprises the opportunity to get to know each other, learn from each other, share experience and look at opportunities for collaboration or trading.
Thursday 3rd November
SENSCOT – Social Enterprise Network Session: 9.30–11.00am
The Argyllshire Gathering Halls will be the venue of this years annual networking event. SENSCOT are Scotland’s support organisation for developing and supporting networking amongst social entrepreneurs and social enterprise. The networking session gives folks the opportunity to hear about the range and diversity of activity being delivered across Argyll and Bute and share your own experiences, as a way of providing a platform for peer support.
Key themes came up in the social enterprise audit and regularly come up when meeting with staff and board members of social enterprises. We have developed a programme of workshops based on these themes and there will be 3 workshop taster learning sessions on the themes of:
- Finances, Enterprise and Sustainability
- Managing Staff and Volunteers
- Leadership and Governance

Lunch and the National Context: 12.00–1.30pm
Social Enterprise Scotland will host this lunch time session where they will help set the national context for social enterprise in Scotland, the Social Enterprise Strategy, opportunities and aspirations for the sector. This will also provide an opportunity for Argyll based enterprises to feedback on their experiences, issues and aspirations for social enterprise in Argyll.
Dragons Den: 1.30–3.30pm
An opportunity to pitch for investment for either a new area of activity or growth. There will be investment available (£3,000 in the pot so far) as well as business support and judges will consider the impact and sustainability of enterprise ideas in relation to different criteria:
- Creating additional employment opportunities in Argyll
- Tackling Depopulation
- Making a social impact
- Sustaining a local services
- Contributing to the local economy
