Description

Do you eat amala or pounded yam? Wear Yoruba traditional clothing? Speak Yoruba? Or none of the above?

From ancient times the number 3 in the form of the triangle, triad or Trinity, has represented solidity, strength and stability.

In this performance talk, Ola Aralepo shares with us his journey on work - in - progress 'ARO META: The Three Pillars of the Yoruba Identity'

Ola who describes himself on ethnic monitoring forms as 'Other: Yoruba- British' is a professional counsellor, public speaking trainer/coach and award winning humorous storyteller. Through his work (Stand Up Therapy) he is passionate about harnessing the healing power of humour for emotional wellbeing. He is also passionate about his Yoruba heritage, born in the UK with some parts of his life spent in Nigeria, Ola has always been curious and went in search of what it means to identify as 'Nigerian' and 'Yoruba'.

This opening talk encapsulates the essence of Omo Yoruba UK.

Omo Yoruba UK is an organisation which embraces and enlightens members on the elements of Yoruba culture through a number of social and interactive events. Particularly targeting those born in the diaspora, it aims to give those who are of Yoruba decent, a stronger sense of identity as well as spread awareness of the Yoruba culture.
