Event description

RCM accredited

This course will be taught by Lindsay Woodman and Jude Davis

Aromatherapy for Childbirth aims to:

  • Provide theoretical and practical learning to enable midwives, doulas and other birth workers to knowledgably use a limited number of essential oils with clients in a variety of ways. To do so with clear guidance to ensure safe, effective application of aromatherapy within midwifery practice.
  • Increase the skill base for working on the holistic level with women.
  • Broaden understanding and women’s access to alternative methods of managing the experience of childbirth.
  • Enable more women to enjoy positive effects of the application of essential oils, including therapeutic touch. Both of which, applied sensitively and appropriately may enhance relaxation and sense of wellbeing, encourage oxytocin release and possibly boost the potential for normality in childbirth.

Course for Midwives Student Midwives, Doulas, student Doulas Health and Maternity Care Assistants and other birth workers.

The teaching day provides detailed theoretical knowledge of 5 essential oils. A variety of applications will be practiced and discussed including how to safely blend a mixture for massage. Health and safety, legal and ethical issues will be covered. A reference manual will be provided for each student to ensure information is clearly retained regarding all that is taught in the course.

Please check out our feedback on Facebook Via the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AromatherapyforChildbirth, which is where you can also contact us for further information.

Inportant Notes:

1. Please note that the attendance of the whole day is necessary to achieve your certification as we have consolidation and assessment at the conclusion of the day

2. The course will start promptly at 9.30 am and continue at the specified times after breaks - please try to be early to ensure you do not miss content

3. Our course is not a 'cascade' training, it does not enable you to teach other professionals what we have taught you - please get in touch if you are unclear and need more information about this

4. Sorry we are unable provide lunch, you are welcome to bring your own or to use the cafe in the building.

5. No Parking - please read below about travel - public transport strongly recommended!

Following the course, if the Trust you're working for supports the use of aromatherapy by trained midwives, then you may be able practice aromatherapy at work in the ways you have been taught in this course. However, this is not guaranteed as all Trusts have their own policies and some might have separate training you would need to complete. We will support you in your work to write a guildline and get a aromatherapy for childbirth up and running where it does not exisit.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

Students must bring proof of student status.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

We strongly advise coming by public transport as parking is very limited

Train: Westcombe Park Station

We are located 500 yards from the station which is 12 minutes by train from London Bridge station on the Greenwich to Dartford Line. Trains run every ten minutes at peak times.

Exit the station from Platform 1, turn right on Station Crescent and follow the road past the parade of shops. Mycenae Road is in front (the left of the two roads straight ahead). Walk to the top of the hill and Mycenae House is on the right hand side.

Tube: North Greenwich Station (Jubilee Line)
Take bus 108 or 422 from Stop B. Alight at the Kirkside Road stop on Westcombe Hill. Cross the road and walk to the end of Kirkside Road and then turn left onto Mycenae Road. Walk to the top of the hill and Mycenae House is on the right hand side.

Mycenae House is well served by buses from all directions; here are the key ones:

To Blackheath Royal Standard:
Bus Numbers 53, 54, 108, 202, 286, 380, 422

To Westcombe Park Road:
Bus Number 386

Please refer to www.tfl.gov.uk for more info.

Mycenae house has a small onsite car park for reserved and disabled drivers. Please call to reserve a disabled parking space. (Blue Badge Holders Only)

London generally best navigated by public transport. There is no parking a at the venue, except as stated above for blue badge holders. A limited number of not guaranteed free parking spaces on the yellow line at the top of Mycenae Road (which is Free to park on after 9.30am) or to the Free Parking bays situated on Hardy Road. It may be possible to purchase a parking permit for permited spaces on the roads outside for the day for £6 from the cafe at Mycenae, but parking spaces are very limited and not guaranteed. There are often a few spaces of free parking on the church side of St John's Park (Sat Nav code SE3 7JW) which is a 8 minute walk away, but again this is not guaranteed.
