Join Jonathan Drori as he talks to us about his stunning new book Around The World In 80 Trees. Jonathan will be discussing our human, emotional attachment with trees and also the impact of the human race and climate change on our forests.

Jonathan Drori is a trustee of the Eden Project, an Ambassador for the WWF and was for nine years a trustee of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and The Woodland Trust. He is a Fellow of the Linnean Society and the Zoological Society of London and a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He is a former Head of Commissioning for BBC Online and Excecutive Producer of more than fifty primetime BBC TV series on science and technology. In 2006 he was awarded the CBE.

In Around The World In 80 Trees, Jonathan Drori uses plant science to illuminate how trees play a role in every part of human life, from the romantic to the regrettable to the downright ridiculous. Stops on the trip include the lime trees of Berlin's Unter den Linden boulevard, which intoxicate amorous Germans and hungry bees alike, the swankiest streets in nineteenth-century London, which were paved with Australian jarrah wood, and the Japanese Lacquer tree, whose sap has been used not only for some of the world's most beautiful man-made objects but also by a sect of monks to mummify themselves whilst still alive. Each of these strange and true tales is illustrated by Lucille Clerc, taking the reader on a stunning Journey through this arboretum of surprising tales.

Tickets for this event are £3 and include a glass of wine on arrival. They are available online from the bottom of this page, by emailing events.brighton@waterstones.com, by calling 01273 206017 or by speaking to our ground floor boksellers.
