Arrowsmith Day with the ECHA

Join us for a day of learning about the life of one of the North's most beloved Catholic saints: Edmund Arrowsmith. Canonised in 1970 as one of the 40 Martyrs of England and Wales, St. Arrowsmith trained at the renowned English College in Douai before returning to his native Lancashire, where he ministered in secret to Catholics for nearly two decades before his capture and execution in 1628.

The day will include a short presentation followed by mass and veneration of the hand relic, at the building still known today as "Arrowsmith House", so-called for being the place of his final mass. This promises to be a special event that you won't want to miss!

Frequently asked questions

What age is this event for?

All ages are welcome. However, be advised that the venue is small and very, very old. The staircase is steep and so younger children must be very careful. In addition, the venue is a private home and only a small section is open to the public. Children must be supervised at all times.

Is the venue accessible?

Unfortunately, no. The venue is hundreds of years old and only has a steep staircase to reach the chapel on the first floor. We will not be able to accommodate pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Is there parking?

Yes, there is on-street parking available on Gregson Lane.

Do I need to book?

Yes! As the venue is so small, we can only accommodate up to thirty people, so booking is essential.
