This 5-week online art course offers a comprehensive introduction to the fascinating world of Art and Design Movements. Throughout the course, you will delve into the history, philosophy, and influential works of five prominent movements: Bauhaus, Memphis Group, De Stijl, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco. Each week, you will explore a different movement, gaining a deeper understanding of its key characteristics, notable artists, and the societal and cultural contexts that shaped its development.
What will this course cover?
Embark on a journey into the captivating realm of Art and Design Movements through our dynamic 5-week course.
- In Week 1, you'll unfurl the origins of the groundbreaking Bauhaus movement, examining its revolutionary approach to design, architecture, and the synthesis of art forms.
- Week 2 beckons you into the whimsical and innovative realm of the Memphis Group, where postmodernism's eclectic fusion of colours and shapes takes center stage.
- Week 3 unveils the harmonious simplicity of De Stijl, a Dutch movement that championed abstraction and geometric precision.
- Art Nouveau, explored in Week 4, enchants with its organic motifs and intricate craftsmanship.
- Week 5 introduces Art Deco, where elegance and opulence merge in a symphony of geometry.
What will I get out of this course?
Throughout this course, you will learn through group discussions and visual examinations of key examples from each art and design movements. Each week will begin with a short introductory presentation on the art and design movement we are learning about that week.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills or experience?
This is an entry level course - no prior skills/experience needed, simply an interest in art and design movements.
What do I need to bring with me?
You do not need to bring any equipment with you, but a pen and notepad may be useful for you to write down your thoughts.
