This course will introduce you to the ways in which you can see and understand art in a new light. Whether you’re completely new to art or want to deepen your enjoyment, this is a great place to start.
You will explore how painters use techniques like composition, colour and texture to convey emotion and meaning. You’ll learn what to look for in famous works as well as lesser-known pieces, and how to notice the deliberate choices that artists make in their work.
What will this course cover?
You’ll explore how to look closely at paintings and understand what they’re trying to say. Together, we’ll look at a range of artworks and discuss how artists use visual language to tell stories, share ideas and create emotional impact.
What will I get out of this course?
By the end of the session, you’ll feel more confident looking at and talking about art. You’ll develop skills to help you enjoy gallery visits more, ask better questions about paintings, and connect more deeply with what you see. Whether for personal enjoyment or future learning, this course will give you fresh eyes and new tools to understand the art around you.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills or experience?
This course suits both beginners as well as those with some existing subject knowledge.
What do I need to bring with me?
You don’t need any special equipment. You’re welcome to bring a pen and notebook if you’d like to take notes or jot down ideas.
