What will this course cover?

700 hundred years of painting has used ‘Spring’ as its subject. This one session course celebrates landscape art from Chinese silk scrolls to a 21st century oil painting.

This art historical view includes work from seventeenth century Europe and nineteenth and twentieth centuryEurope and north America.

The course demonstrates a variety of celebrations engaging human attentions and attachments in paint from topographical realisation to abstraction

What will I get out of this course?

You will gain a vivid appreciation of how artists across 700 years have celebrated the theme of spring, from delicate Chinese silk scrolls to bold modern oil paintings.

You’ll strengthen your ability to interpret landscape art by exploring works from Europe and North America across several centuries, learning how styles shift from detailed topographical depictions to expressive abstraction.

Through this journey, you will develop sharper visual analysis skills, deepen your understanding of cultural and historical contexts, and come away with a richer sense of how the season of renewal has inspired artists to capture human attentions, emotions, and attachments in paint.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills or experience?

This is an entry level course - no particular skills or experience are needed; simply just an interest in art.

What do I need to bring with me?

You do not need to bring any equipment, but a pen and notepad may be useful for you to write down your thoughts.
