What will this course cover?
This course investigates the emergence of abstraction and expressionism in modern art, exploring how artists broke away from traditional representation to convey emotion, inner experience and different ways of seeing. Through key figures and movements, you will learn about the evolution of abstraction as both a visual language and a form of artistic expression.
What will I get out of this course?
You will gain an understanding of historical contexts that gave rise to these movements, develop skills in analysing elements of artwork (colour, line and composition) and develop a deeper appreciation of how the abstract challeneged conventional norms of art.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills or experience?
This course is available for all levels. Those with an interest in art history and willingness to learn will enjoy this course - no prior knowledge is needed.
What do I need to bring with me?
No equipment is needed, just bring an open mind, curiosity and readiness to explore with the class. You may bring a pen and notebook to jot down your reflections.
