Course session:

  • Friday 3rd October 2025, 10:00am – 1:00pm

In this course we'll explore how artists portray weather in art across time, place and style. This course will help you see how artists capture the power and mood of the elements through a range of techniques and mediums.

What will this course cover?

You’ll look at a range of artworks that feature weather as a key theme. We’ll explore how different artists and movements have represented wind, rain, sunlight, snow and more. You’ll also consider how weather has been used to reflect emotion, symbolise change, or highlight the beauty of nature.

What will I get out of this course?

You’ll gain new skills in observing and interpreting art, along with a deeper appreciation for how weather shapes artistic expression. You’ll leave feeling more confident talking about art, and with a fresh perspective.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills or experience?

No previous experience is necessary - just a lively, open-minded interest in art as well as the social, cultural, political and historical context in which these works were produced.

What do I need to bring with me?

You don’t need any special equipment. You’re welcome to bring a pen and notebook if you’d like to take notes or jot down ideas.
