The Art Auction is set in the Holy Biscuit a unique gallery on the intersection of contemporary art and community activity, the auction will join together and showcase a truly eclectic mix of art works from Chilli Studio members, talented graduate artists, North East artists as well as a few famous artists works from the contemporary local & global art world.

This year our event management team will be joined by Derek Eland (“Being human at base camp”, Artist in residency at Everest Base Camp 2016), where thanks to his involvement in our cause, we will work together to reach and represent an exiting and diverse range of artists.

The city of Newcastle has brought up the value and importance of human rights through the Freedom City event 2017, where the commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, one of the world’s greatest civil rights leaders, reinforced the position of Newcastle against racial inequality, poverty and the shadow of mental health issues through discrimination.

“It is not possible to be in favor of justice for some people and not be in favor of justice for all people.”

Chilli Studios pursues the same challenge as Dr. King did in his life: equality for everyone, equality for being different. As part of Chilli’s ethos and objectives, Chilli Studios has a crucial role in protecting and assuring human rights of each member through freedom of expression by artistic support and equality through community involvement, advice and signposting to activism and their anti-stigma stance. Following this, Chilli Studios maintains a clear position in promoting values and the protection of each members human rights.

“2016 was a year I would rather never have happened...I lost my dear Mum at the beginning of the year and my sister at the end of the year…as well as dealing with my own mental health issues…Like anyone else I was desperate for something that would give me a handle on things that would soothe the pain.... In the midst of my darkest times, Chilli Studios became the candle that lit my way.....” Pete M, Chilli Studio Member

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Martin Luther King

So, come with us and be prepared to invest in Chilli, where your unique fundraising efforts will help our charity’s future. An event where Art & Wellbeing is truly visible in the expressive powers of each piece to the ethical investment of purchasing works that help towards supporting a Charity’s endeavours to achieve sustainability and carry on our activity that explores the use of creative participation as an intervention to prevent mental health deterioration.
