About this event

Arts • Fine Art

A new exhibition approaching art from a different angle. Presenting a series of 26 pictures which depict highly recognised world masterpieces, such as Vermeer, ‘The girl with the pearl earring,’ Hopper, ‘The Night Hawk,’ Munch, ‘The Scream,’ Klimt ‘The Kiss’, etc. Viewers will be encouraged, with a help sheet, to link the artist with the representational painting and read the five sentences on each canvas. The sentences relate to the artist and aspects of the painting, allowing the viewer to explore the artist work from a different perspective. Hopefully the viewer will then want to look at the original art pieces in more detail.

The purpose of this exhibition is to encourage individuals not just to glance at pictures and pass by, but examine them more closely. Each representation is easily identifiable to the original work but it is the five sentences and their interpretation which make them interesting.

Martine Shackerley-Bennett is not only an artist but playwright, novelist and poet. All her work is designed to stimulate and engage the individual to interact with her work.
