Venus Through the Ages: An Icon of Beauty and Power

Come join us for a fascinating exploration of the timeless allure of Venus, the goddess of love and beauty.

This in-person art history talk will be held at Port Independent, where we’ll delve into the symbolism and representation of Venus throughout the history of art. From classical sculpture to contemporary interpretations, discover how this iconic figure has evolved—and how she continues to inspire artists today.

Uncover the enduring power of beauty, femininity, and myth through the eyes of artists across the centuries.

Hosted by artist and curator Liv Askwith, whose work explores hyper-femininity and draws deeply from the well of art history.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see art history through a bold, feminist lens.

Organised by

Pink-Collar Gallery CIC is an art organisation dedicated to the promotion of women and working-class people and using art to promote equality, working in the North East with Sunderland being our base. We want to address the emplacement in the arts, to support and develop working-class artists. We have developed workshops, creative talks and mentoring sessions. Currently, we don't have a permanent gallery space so we pop-up exhibitions in the North East spaces including Otto cafe, 17nineteen and local community centres. Our exhibitions focus on the underrepresentation of women in the arts and championing working-class identity. We aim to help emerging creatives of all ages wanting to work and develop their practice in the North East.
