I, Witness, Too: Revisiting Artistic Responses to Conflicts of Their Time
Friday 5 November – Friday 3 December
10.15am-12.15pm
Northampton Museum & Art Gallery
Where there is conflict there seems to be human endeavour to capture, document, comment upon, and commemorate events, personalities and histories. Given the sensitive nature of conflict, the art produced in response is often as emotive as it is contentious and can provoke debate to this day. For our sixteenth series of art history lectures, the first to be delivered face-to-face in our new museum building, we continue the theme we had to forego in 2020 when the pandemic struck. Using five art works from the Northampton Museum and Art Gallery collection, join ProArtium as they unravel stories of how the visual arts have responded to human conflict over time.
