Join us in October for art history lecturer, Stella Grace Lyons’s fascinating talk on the Glasgow Boys and their triumph over the Edinburgh ‘Glue-Pots’
During the 19th Century, Glasgow was known as the ‘Second City of the British Empire’. It was a vibrant place, a city which was growing – both industrially and culturally. It was within this innovative environment that the Glasgow Boys were born.
The ‘Boys’ were a group of around 20 young artists who revolutionised Scottish painting by bringing it into the mainstream of European art.
They carved their own, distinctive path rebelling against the elitist, Edinburgh dominated art scene and the artists they termed the ‘Glue Pots’.
This talk explores their diverse, modern and inventive work.
‘Without sacrificing scholarship, Stella Grace Lyons has a most engaging way of hooking an audience into sharing her passionate interest in art history, drawing three dimensional human stories and experiences from the two-dimensional canvas'- Maev Kennedy, Guardian Arts Correspondent
Following the talk, please stay for tea and cake, served in the Pavilion’s beautiful Gallery.

Ymunwch â ni ym mis Hydref ar gyfer sgwrs ddiddorol y darlithydd hanes celf, Stella Grace Lyons ar y Glasgow Boys a’u buddugoliaeth dros 'Glue-Pots' Caeredin.
Yn ystod y 19eg ganrif, roedd Glasgow yn cael ei hadnabod fel 'Ail Ddinas yr Ymerodraeth Brydeinig'. Roedd yn lle bywiog, dinas a oedd yn tyfu – yn ddiwydiannol ac yn ddiwylliannol. Yn yr amgylchedd arloesol hwn y cafodd y Glasgow Boys eu geni.
Roedd y 'Bechgyn' yn grŵp o tua 20 o artistiaid ifanc wnaeth chwyldroi paentio yn yr Alban trwy ddod ag ef i mewn i brif ffrwd celf Ewropeaidd.
Fe wnaethant gerfio eu llwybr unigryw eu hunain yn gwrthryfela yn erbyn y sîn gelf elitaidd yng Nghaeredin a'r artistiaid yr oeddent yn eu galw’n 'Glue Pots'.
Mae'r sgwrs hon yn archwilio eu gwaith amrywiol, modern a dyfeisgar.
‘Heb aberthu ysgolheictod, mae Stella Grace Lyons yn defnyddio dull hynod ddifyr o ennyn diddordeb cynulleidfa i rannu ei brwdfrydedd dros hanes celf, gan ddefnyddio straeon a phrofiadau dynol tri dimensiwn o’r cynfas dau ddimensiwn’- Maev Kennedy, Gohebydd Celfyddydau The Guardian
Ar ôl y sgwrs, mae croeso mawr i chi aros i gael te a chacen, wedi'u gweini yn Oriel hardd y Pafiliwn.
