About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Come and learn how to create your very own dioramas!

During this class, you will be provided with all the materials needed to create your own personalised artwork in a lidded box. The theme will be a happy or peaceful place - for example under a tree, by a lake, by a mountain or at the seashore.

Cordula will provide help and direction to achieve your desired motif. This monochrome picture will then be stuck into the box. A subsequent additional motif, for example a flower or animal will be added over the top of this. If time permits, you may also add a detail from the main design to decorate the top of the lid.

About the tutor:

Cordula Marks Venters is a mixed media artist and illustrator based in Edinburgh. She creates 2-d and 3-d art and especially loves making dioramas. Her work has featured in many exhibitions, including the Royal Academy of Scotland, Linlithgow Burgh Halls and various galleries in and around Edinburgh. She has also created several books. She loves sharing her art and skills with others and has led workshops and classes on a wide range of themes. Her happy place is in a forest somewhere, probably walking with a dinosaur or two.

Donation:

There's an optional donation to go towards the running costs of the classes - Eventbrite requires £1 to be entered in the box but we can refund that in cash when you attend the class. It stops people booking up all the free tickets then not showing up!

If you're happy to donate, that would be a great help, as our funding doesn't cover the admin costs of organising these classes :)

Organized by

Sketchy Beats is a not-for-profit arts space on Great Junction Street, Leith. It's an open platform for creatives of any kind to use and share their ideas with the public. The space is designed to be affordable and accessible to everyone - people who have never organised events before, musicians who have never played outside their own bedroom, artists who have never exhibited before. It aims to be a place where creativity brings the community together, without money being an obstacle.

Everything in the space is donation-based. If you want a cup of tea or coffee, you can help yourself and leave a small donation. If you want to bring your own alcohol, just leave a donation for corkage. If you want to organise your own event, it's free to book, we just ask for a donation from each person who comes in. If you are interested in booking the space for your own event, workshop, meet-up or rehearsal, send us a message!
