About this event

Community • Historic

This thought-provoking walk marks the 85th anniversary of the Blitz through the eyes of contemporary artists who responded to the intense aerial bombing campaign between September 1940 and May 1941 with their evocative paintings and drawings. It features images by artists such as David Shepherd, Richard Matthews, Ernest Borough Johnson, Esther Borough Johnson and others in the locations where they were created.

What to expect:

You'll explore the area around St Paul’s Cathedral in the City of London, itself a miraculous survivor of the devastation. The walking tour takes place twice - marking both the beginning and the end of the Blitz.

This event listing is to book the walk taking place on 10 May 2026, marking the end of the Blitz in 1941. The tour also takes place on 7 September 2025, the 85th anniversary of the start of the Blitz in 1940 - click here to go to the event listing for the September 2025 walking tour instead.

City of London Guide Lecturer Jonathan Wober from London On The Ground will lead this tour which takes approximately 2 hours. On this tour, Jonathan will show drawings and paintings of bomb sites and other scenes in the City in the locations where they were created.

Please book your tickets in advance of the walk.
