MEET THE PANEL
Gemma Peppé - Art on a Postcard
Founder and Director
Gemma Peppé had hepatitis C for 14 years before she was diagnosed and then another 12 years before she was cured. She first got involved with The Hepatitis C Trust when she was researching her 2006 documentary Louie Me and Hepatitis C. Her background in music and film provided a foundation from which to fundraise for The Hepatitis C Trust. Since being cured and regaining her energy Gemma has worked full time developing Art on a Postcard. In 2017 Photography on a Postcard was added as to her fundraising roster.
Jennie Fisher - Dreweatts Auction House
Joint Head of Picture Department; Modern and Contemporary Art
Jennie Fisher studied History and French at University College, London and the Sorbonne followed by a Masters in the History of Art at Trinity College, Oxford.
Upon graduation Jennie worked at Sotheby’s for the best part of ten years. She started at the then newly opened Olympia saleroom where she progressed to running six sales annually of Impressionist & Modern Art and Contemporary Art. In 2006 Jennie re-located to Sotheby’s Paris office for a short period where she worked in setting up local auctions of Impressionist and Contemporary Art. Upon her return to London and until 2010 Jennie was a Director and Head of the Prints Department. Thereafter Jennie took a short break to look after her two children and she moved to Somerset. Between 2012 and early 2016, she worked on a part-time basis for Bonham’s as a regional Picture specialist for the South-West.
Jennie joined Dreweatts in 2016 and continues to specialise predominately in modern pictures and prints. She has overseen the sale of several significant collections, including a Private Collection of Forty-Five Irish & British Paintings and Sculpture, April 2016 and Works from the Collection of Jan Krugier, March 2017 as well as property from the Estate of the late Clifford and Rosemary Ellis, January 2017. The annual Art on a Postcard (AOAP) Winter Auction is back. The last six months and the global pandemic have seen so many changes to the way we work but we are excited to bring back our most popular annual auction. Out of the two hundred and thirty artists taking part this year, highlights include the Paraguayan artist Faith Wilding, known for her feminist performances and installations in the 70s, the Dutch polemical artist Erik van Lieshout, Walter Swennen, known for his radical, experiential and poetic approach to painting, British Anj Smith whose intricately rendered paintings explore issues of identity, eroticism, mortality, and fragility; the critically acclaimed British artist Ryan Mosley who has recently taken part in the group show Radical Figure, Painting in the New Millennium at the Whitechapel in London and Saint Lucian born artist Winston Branch whose accolades include a Guggenheim fellowship and whose work is held in the collections of many of the world’s top galleries including The Tate.
Bidding starts at just £50.
This auction will focus on The Hepatitis C Trust’s helpline which is staffed entirely by people who have had hepatitis C. The helpline has become a key component in the current Infected Blood Inquiry the largest public enquiry in British history, which was launched to investigate why infected blood products were being used to treat NHS patients prior to 1992. Helpline manager Samantha May is providing supporting evidence to the Inquiry team based on statistics and common facts drawn out by the numerous calls to our helpline over the years. The number of calls from people who have received infected blood during transfusion and subsequently been misdiagnosed for years only to find they have cirrhosis or liver cancer have snowballed and keeping up is increasingly difficult.
