Event description
Colombian artist and art historian, Daniela Galán, explores Latin American Art & how it has shaped the landscape of the art world today.

About this Event

Join us for an incredible afternoon of #ArtAndDrinks whilst we discover the Tate Modern's collection of Latin American Art.

After they had shattered the confines of European modernity, they conceived a new visual language, forging what we today have come to dismissively call Latin American Art. Discover Cildo Meireles, Fernel Franco, Helio Oiticica, Lygia Clark, Sandra Gamarra, Doris Salcedo, Tania Bruguera, Carlos Cruz Diez, Jesus Rafael Soto and many others.

Starting with a 90 minute tour around the gallery, we will discover and explore the life and works of the many radical artists the Tate's outstanding collection has to offer. There will be time to talk and discuss along the way, ensuring you enjoy the best experience. We will finish the afternoon with a refreshing glass of wine served nearby; the perfect opportunity to meet likeminded people like yourself. What more could you ask for? #Art&Drinks.

Daniela Galán is a Colombian artist and art historian from Goldsmiths University. She is also a former lawyer and philosopher of Los Andes University, with a five-year background in education and corporate training. As an art historian, she has concentrated her research in Latin American art history, exploring the concept of nature (what is natural and unnatural in Art) and how this concept has been constructed through historical and political influences.

Want to know how people found the tours? Read what Clara had to say after attending out Latin American Art Tour.

“I really enjoyed the time that I spent with Daniela in the Tate Modern. It became apparent very early on that the Latin American women artists were in need of creating their own art. They wanted to get away from the usual concept of art as a painting with a frame around it hanging on a wall….With Daniela’s guidance we were able to admire and understand the essence of the different pieces.”

Tickets:

£55 includes a £20 donation to Children Change Colombia and one glass of wine or beer.
