About this event

  • 3 hours

Artful Stitching is an inspiring workshop to nourish your creativity, make connections with like minded people and take some time just for you to learn new and exciting embroidery skills.

You will be creating artful embroidery on to beautifully hand dyed fabrics created exclusively in my studio, using a combination of slow stitch and embroidery sampler stitching styles. You'll begin the workshop by learning a selection of hand embroidery stitches that make up the back bone of all other embroidery stitches - both how to embroider these traditionally and then altering them to make new and interesting effects. Without a formal plan you'll embroider away with new stitches being taught as needed. Time will be spent with each person individually to share those skills needed to progress with your embroidery artwork.

By the end of the workshop you will have learnt a range of beautiful hand embroidery stitches and be taking away a unique piece of embroidered artwork.

All materials are provided, along with drinks. This workshop also includes a beautifully curated gift set consisting of a selection of fabrics and threads to ensure you can continue creating after the workshop, artist greetings cards and an exclusive needleminder. The colours and designs of the contents will be different in each box.

The workshop is suitable for people of all levels of embroidery experience from the complete beginner to the more accomplished embroiderer.

All of my workshops are designed to teach new skills as well as to develop creative confidence. They are welcoming to everyone, with a relaxed, informative and inspiring atmosphere. I have a flexible approach to teaching, allowing participants to follow their own interests and develop work that they can be proud of. I work with each person individually to ensure that they are developing the skills needed to realise their project – and if you have no idea what you want to do I’ll help with that too!

I truly believe that art is all about expressing yourself and this is what I encourage you to do. I’ll have lots of samples to inspire you, but always support you to make your own work – after all who needs several pieces of art that are all exactly the same! I’ve taught workshops in this way for many years and people always surprise themselves with what they can achieve.

The workshop will be held at the Community Hall (Theatre) Saltburn by the Sea from 6-9pm. The room is fully accessible. There is on road parking available; this isn’t allocated and so you may have a short walk to the venue. I’ll send directions of how to find the room and suggested places to park nearer to the workshop.

I am a textile artist, tutor and community artist.  I hold qualifications in both textile arts and education.  I love teaching, passing on skills and knowledge in a supportive and creative environment.  In my workshops students are encouraged to create artwork that is unique to them, rather than a replica of my work.  I always have sample works available to inspire and to learn from.
