Description

Hannah Turner-Duffin is a Bristol based painter. Having studied at Turps Art School 2018, the Royal Drawing School 2009 and Falmouth College of Arts 2007 as well as the Institute of Education, London 2014. She has exhibited widely, has completed several international residencies, and is an experienced workshop leader and fully qualified teacher.

Hannah has over ten years of teaching experience, facilitating others’ creativity in a variety of venues across London including prestigious locations such as; The Saatchi Gallery, treehouses in Regents Park and The Royal Drawing as well as schools and colleges, delivering inspiring workshops and masterclasses within a diverse range of communities.

Hannah creates vibrant works of art, created through experiential ritualistic processes; her methods whilst based in painting, weave craft and fine art techniques and processes together; exploring and experimenting with possibilities, she brings this playful exciting methodology into her teaching allowing the student to really push past their expectations and go on their own experimental journey.

NAVIGATING THE ABSTRACT- 10-4pm Saturdays 05/10,12/10,19/10,26/10

this 4 week course aimed at introducing aspiring Artists to a range of ways of approaching and accessing ‘The Abstract’. Beginning with experimental observational drawing exercises students will be guided through explorative tasks in techniques including; drawing, printmaking, collage and painting in a wide range of materials; encouraged to experiment and look anew in order to produce their own mixed media pieces in the final session and begin to develop their own process led practice.

Course objective :

  • Build confidence and begin to develop process led practice

  • Challenge and broaden your notion of drawing

  • Develop visual language through observational drawing tasks

  • Explore and discover new mark making techniques
  • Experiment with a range of materials

  • Investigate new techniques and material combinations

Course outcome :

This course is an opportunity to:

  • Improve your drawing skills

  • Develop an innovative body of work in a range of media

  • Explore and Learn new techniques

  • Through a wide range of Artist led tasks students will build their confidence in order to begin to develop their own process led practice.

  • Students will use knowledge gained in order to develop their own pieces in the last session


week 1 -

Pattern, rhythm and shape.

Introducing ways of abstracting the real through experimental observational drawing tasks in wet and dry materials; students will be encouraged to look in new exciting ways.

week 2 -

Marks, layers and surface

Students will experiment with different mark making techniques and applications of materials to create an expanse of surfaces and layered textures.

week 3 -

Colour and balance

Investigate colour combinations in depth in a wide range of media.

week 4 -

All together now

Building on ideas and techniques investigated in previous sessions; this will be a chance to pull it all together into a mixed media artwork of your own conception with individual guided tuition.
