A National Park Volunteer-led guided walk from Pooley Bridge taking in Arthur's Pike (a Wainwright peak).

About this event

Start point: Market Cross, Pooley Bridge

Length: 11km (6.8miles) with 418m (1,371ft) of ascent

Time: 4 hours (approx.)

A moderate graded walk that begins with a steady climb to reach the summit of the 532m Arthur's Pike.

On a clear day, the reward for reaching the summit is a magnificent view of Ullswater and the surrounding fells. From the summit of Arthur's Pike, the route continues downhill to visit The Cockpit, a Bronze Age stone circle. A wide track and narrow road is then followed back to Pooley Bridge.

The route takes us on rough tracks, across open fell and over stepping stones to cross two small, shallow streams. Paths are generally good but there are some sections that are stony and others that will be muddy in poor weather.

Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather and bring a packed lunch.
