Organiser Thames Ward Community Project

Organiser of ARTiculate the Journey

Thames Ward Community Project (TWCP) aims to be a catalyst for sustainable community-led change. The project will bring together schools, community groups and residents from across the Thames ward of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham over a period of three years to develop initiatives that will:

  • Improve the local environment;
  • Achieve better health outcomes and quality of life for residents;
  • Increase resident skills and job opportunities and;
  • Ensure that they have a strong voice and can influence change in the area over the next decade.

By Year Three, the project will have established a resident-led Community Development Trust to continue this work into the future and to ensure that the initiatives that emerge over the next three years are sustainable.

Big Lottery funding through the ‘Reaching Communities’ programme has enabled two community workers to be employed by Riverside School to develop the project, a Director of Community Engagement and a Community Organiser.

The project is led by Riverside School and managed by a steering committee with a broad-based resident membership, as well as outside expertise and input from key partners.
