Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and opportunities for organisations
Event Information
Description
Organised by The Artificial Intelligence Research Centre at Brunel University London's Business School
Formerly the realm of science fiction or computing labs, artificial intelligence (AI) is now a significant part of business life. More and more decisions are being automated or augmented by machine learning algorithms and, in some areas, artificial intelligence is even being given autonomy to take decisions without human intervention.
The strategic effects of the AI and associated technologies – machine learning, Blockchain, augmented and virtual reality, chatbots and the internet of things – are beginning to be felt in many sectors. Sectors such as financial services, insurance, logistics, retail, manufacturing, health, social services and police forces are actively using these technologies.
Artificial intelligence doesn’t just change how organisations work. It introduces new competitors and business models, as new digital platforms attack incumbents; it requires new skills and capabilities; raises ethical concerns, and impacts on how and why strategic decisions are made.
Delegates can choose from four topics that will be covered in 2 parallel streams, led by speakers from industry and academia. There will be ample opportunity to network with peers.
Morning streams:
Topic 1: AI-driven Tansformation
AI Challenges facing Organisations - Professor Ashley Braganza, Brunel Business School
The AI skills employers need in their workforce to successfully manage transformation - Bill Mitchell, Director of Policy, British Computer Society
Topic 2: Strategy and Business Models
AI in Government - Chris Webber, Open Innovation Team, Cabinet Office
How AI is- and will - change law firms and practices - Prof Arad Reisberg, Head, Brunel Law School

This event brings together senior managers, policy makers, academics and researchers to share their experiences, knowledge and cutting-edge research. The symposium is aimed at empowering participants to access the emergent technological environment, and make strategic decisions for, or on behalf of their organisation.
Some questions we will be exploring are:
-
What new strategic capabilities should my organisation develop?
-
How does my organisation maintain market share?
-
Which jobs will be affected by these technologies?
-
What options do I have for my organisation’s business model?
-
How do I address ethical concerns raised by the technology?
-
What are the risks, and how do I mitigate them?
-
How do I transform the organisation’s internal operations and external relationships?
Regstration includes refreshments, lunch and a networking drinks reception.
Free parking is available on campus.
We look forward to seeing you at the Brunel Business School for this timely event...
