About this event
"Elly’s workshop was transformative - it allowed me to reconsider how I frame my practice and whether the words and language actually reflect it, without compromising on my natural writing flow. It’s not only about the artist statement, it’s a reflective and collaborative experience that offers so much generous and invaluable feedback from the other participants as well - an empowering and critical wake up call on the whimsical pressure of artists statements." - Marta, new media artist
A 2.5 hour artist statement writing workshop with artist, researcher and educator (Dr.) Elly Clarke. Through collective and independent writing exercises, we will unlock new, creative approaches to writing about your work for websites, grant applications and so on - but also as a means of exporing and (re)encountering your working processes in new ways.
The workshop is both collaborative and participatory, with all attendees strongly encouraged to join in with the collective editing of others' work. The session will NOT be recorded.
Bring a 250-300 word artist statement you already have, to work on. Sharing your statement with the group is encouraged, but not compulsory!
Group will be a minimum of 6 people; max 12. We will take regular breaks.
This workshop is suitable for artists at all stages of their career, as well as for writers, theatre makers and other practioners. And for those who have already done a workshop with me.
Please contact me with any questions. I look forward to working with you!

Please contact me with any questions you may have about this session and find out more about my work on my website: ellyclarke.com.
I also offer 1-1 and small group sessions for artists who want to work, publish or exhibit together. Please contact me if you would like to set one up.

No, you don't. It is entirely voluntary. You will still gain a lot from doing the individual writing exercises, and participating in the collective editing.
Yes - around 2 months, as a drop in session . I will also be building three-session courses, to enable some deeper work to take place.
