Event description

Description

Join us for an informal chat and brunch with the artist Anita Taylor who will talk about her practice and exhibition DRAWN.

Anita Taylor is a figurative painter, exploring identity, emotion and narrative through tableaux and interactions which are at once highly theatrical, but also intimate and symbolic. This exhibition includes work spanning the last 20 years, and includes both paintings and drawings. Anita’s charcoal drawings form part of a continuous strand of pieces which document 20 years of postgraduate development, often using herself as the model. They are not self-portraits in the traditional sense, but use the figure as a vehicle for communicating complex and universal feelings; the viewer becomes complicit in each piece as it mirrors their own mood or preoccupations.

Anita was co-founded the Jerwood Drawing Prize; a prominent annual award and touring exhibition that showcases current drawing practice in the UK. She is Dean of The School of Art & Design, Bath Spa University and runs Drawing Projects UK in Trowbridge, South West - a space for artist residencies, workshops and exhibitions.

The exhibition runs 19 August - 12 November 2017
Exhibition Preview Thursday 17 August 6-8pm
