Join us for an engaging artist talk and Q&A with Leah Gordon and author and image collector Stephen Ellcock, as they discuss Leah's solo exhibition Leah Gordon: Monument to the Vanquished Peasant.
The talk will explore the themes and creative process behind the exhibition, reflecting on the lasting impact of the enclosure acts and the loss of commons, and asking how histories of evictions, loss of rights, quashed rebellions and widespread displacement continue to shape the systems and politics we live with today.
The discussion will also consider the exhibition’s wider context, which includes a special display curated by Stephen Ellcock and objects from the Museum of English Rural Life’s collection.
This event will feature a panel talk and Q&A, a guided tour of the exhibition with artists and curators, followed by an after-party with music and drinks.
Presented as part of Monument to the Vanquished Peasant, a Meadow Arts exhibition with the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, in association with Coventry Biennial.
Monument to the Vanquished Peasant will take place at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum (3 October 2025 – 25 January 2026).
