Artist Talk - Rachel Elliott Glasswork
Event Information
Description
Rachel discusses her use of traditional kiln-fired enamels with computer controlled industrial water-jet cutting. The two vastly different techniques merge millennia of glass making history to create unique sculptural pieces, innovative and whimsical.
Rachel works from her studio in Glasgow and specialises in kiln-formed glass. She uses traditional techniques such as screen-printing with fired enamels, combined with the modern innovation of water-jet cutting. Her unique range of precision cut silhouette glass creatures are adorned with various whimsical designs in bright permanent colours.
She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA(Hons) in Architectural Glass and has exhibited her sculpture globally in group exhibitions.
Rachel loves the technical challenges of working with glass in different ways as well as troubleshooting after ‘unexpected’ results. Her work is mostly representational, attempting to catch the viewer’s eye, inviting them into her world and hopefully leaving with a smile.
