Description

WHAT

The Artists-Activists Research Group invite you to the second of our informal presentations and discussion.

This network gathered following the Activism in Art symposium May 2017 held at University of West of England. Partly in recognition of the value of sharing ideas, receiving feedback on relevant issues and sharing best and current practice amongst local 'artists- activists'.

There will be two artists presentations from artists Catherine Cartwright, http://catherinecartwright.co.uk/about/ and Rosalind J Turner, http://www.rosalindjturner.com/

Rosalind Jane Turner, an Interdisciplinary Practitioner currently exploring one of the Bravery School themes of CHANGE THE STORY. Rosalind will present her residency and pilot project 'Bravery School' Autumn 2016 - Autumn 2017). An interdisciplinary experiment using dialogue, voice-work, movement, story telling and photography, working in collaboration with UWE Photography Dept, Artspace Lifespace and several independent contributors. The project explored some of the hidden territories of being a woman, the affects of patriarchy, what binds us, and what does bravery mean to us as women in 2017.

Catherine Cartwright, Multi-Disciplinary Artist, works primarily with printmaking, drawing and film, often exploring socio-political issues. Catherine is currently doing her Masters in Multidisciplinary Printmaking at UWE.

Catherine Cartwright's presentation on "Reclaim" a portraiture project that seeks to explore how visual artists can work in a socially active way. In collaboration with service users at Devon Rape Crisis, this year Catherine has begun a project to see how her visual art practice could support the healing process. Catherine will share her methodology and her hopes for how the project will progress over 2018 and into the future.

There will be time for open discussion about the ideas raised and perhaps what might happen next...
