Artists for Climate 2024 - The Artist Teacher Climate Conference

About the Conference:

Together as part of the global creative community, the conference will aim to discuss climate action in the classroom and the artist teacher. The conference will welcome a range of speakers to share their experiences, good practice and thought-provoking research to continue these efforts. Furthermore, attendees will participate in a climate action workshop in our dye labs. Our natural pigment workshop will look at alternative eco-friendly and sustainable techniques, brewing natural dyes and paint pigments. This two part workshop will include a natural dye print workshop and ways for fellow artists teachers to bring this into the classroom.

Working in collaboration with our partners NSEAD and the North East Art Teacher Educator Network [NEATEN] who will be supporting this event.

Call for Speakers: Artists for Climate

We invite submissions of abstracts for presentation at the Artist for Climate Conference 2024. We welcome contributions from teachers, research, lecturers, artists, practitioners, and other stakeholders working in the areas of the arts or climate adaption or sustainable development.

Topics of Interest Could Include (but not limited to):

1. Climate Action in the classroom

2. Student-led sustainability projects & exhibitions

3. Teacher-led sustainability projects & exhibitions

4. Climate Change Science & Impact

5. Young Voices in Sustainability

6. Climate Justice and Equity

7. Education and Communities for Climate Action

Submissions Guidelines:

· Abstract of 300 words max of presentation topic

· Brief Biography (100 words) of presenting author

· All submissions must be in submitted by the deadlines Wednesday 15st May.

Publication Opportunities:

Selected papers presented at the conference will be published in PAD ‘Perspectives in Art & Design’ Online Publication Summer Edition.

JOIN The Northern Creative Network (TNCN)

The Northern Creative Network is run by The Northern School of Art as part of its mission to promote teaching and participation in the creative subjects so that there is a secure talent pipeline to meet the needs of a growing and diverse industry. We provide:

• CPD sessions and short courses for teachers and advisers (both online and in-person)• Industry insight events which includes a weekly programme of industry speaker webinars • IAG information, specifically targeting any knowledge gaps of specific sectors e.g. stage & screen industries • Networking platform for both education and creative culture sectors• Masterclasses in techniques and other bespoke services

TNCN forms part of the School’s wider suite of outreach work. We provide a range of activities and interventions to help school’s enable young people to develop their creative and cultural capital. Our activities encompass both light-touch e.g. one-off masterclasses/workshops to more intense levels of engagement e.g. year-long Saturday Club participation.
