About this event

Arts • Fine Art

Join us and our current residents Britni Bicknaver and Anissa R. Lewis for artists talks. Both artists have been in residence at Peacock during September and supported by Great Meadows Foundation. During the event each artist will introduce their individual practice and discuss the making of new works at Peacock.

This event is part of ‘In the making: Place, histories, power’ an exhibition of works in progress by artists Britni Bicknaver and Anissa R. Lewis. Whilst in residence the artists have been learning and developing their knowledge on printmaking whilst developing new work. Each artist - in different ways - has responded to the landscape of Aberdeen and Scotland more broadly in the making of the work.

Britni Bicknaver:

Britni Bicknaver is an audio artist and wanna-be historian. Dreaming of being an archaeologist as a kid, she veered off track into the world of art. Trained in visual mediums and a graduate of the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the University of Cincinnati, she discovered audio through a bout of artist's block. Now she uses the medium to dig up history, just like she always wanted to, creating pieces from historical audio tours that blur the line between education and art, to soundtracks for artifacts.

Anissa R. Lewis:

Anissa R. Lewis work has been viewed at the Hampton University Museum, in Hampton, VA, The Carnegie, in Covington, KY, the Riffe Gallery, in Columbus, OH, the Contemporary Arts Center, in Cincinnati, OH, and at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, in Kansas City, MO, and the Kansas African American Museum in Wichita, KS. Her work has been collected by the Sara Vance Waddell Collection. She lives in her childhood home, Covington, KY, with her partner and son.

In partnership with the Great Meadows Foundation, Peacock have supported artists based in Kentucky (USA) through a one-month long residency. The residency, established in 2023 provides an opportunity for artists to expand their capacity for new ideas and the acquisition of new skills through technical and curatorial support. Artists are also invited to engage in the cultural life of Aberdeen and Scotland more broadly.

The residency has been made possible with the generous support of the Great Meadows Foundation. Great Meadows Foundation is a grant giving foundation, launched in 2016 by contemporary art collector and philanthropist Al Shands (1928-2021). Named for the home that Al and his late wife Mary created, the mission of Great Meadows Foundation is to critically strengthen and support visual art in Kentucky by empowering our community’s artists and other visual arts professionals to research, connect, and participate more actively in the broader contemporary art world.
